What is this course about?

Our Hair & Beauty Level 1 Introduction gives learners the knowledge and skills to provide clients with various treatments. If you are looking for a new vocation within the Beauty industry, this course is ideal.

What will we cover?

The aim of this qualification is to prepare learners to work within the Hair & Beauty Industry. It is designed for anyone with an interest and enthusiasm, who wishes to develop the basic knowledge, skills and competencies to work within a beauty salon at an entry level.

You will learn the following on your course

• UV10343 Introduction to the hair and beauty sector (Mandatory) 
• UV10344 Presenting a professional image in a salon (Mandatory) 
• UV10416 Providing basic manicure treatment
• UV10417 Providing basic pedicure treatment
• UV30339 Basic make-up application

What level is this course & what skills do I need?

This course is a Level 1.

You will need to have appropriate levels of English skills in order to produce assignments necessary for this course. 

You must have achieved an English Language Entry 3 qualification or above. You will be asked to provide your certificates during the Course Approval Assessment.

A passion for the beauty and or complementary industry and a willingness to learn.

Competent IT skills.

Well organised and ability to work to deadlines. This course requires home study and research skills. You must have sufficient time at home that you can set aside to do homework, revision and practice.

You will be expected to work on your classmates to practice and perform your practical treatments.

This course is open to males and females.

How do I enrol?

To be considered for a place on this course, you are required to complete an online course assessment to ensure this course is suitable for you. 

You can make an application by clicking on ‘APPLY’ at the bottom of this page. If you do not already have a Sutton College online account you will need to create one first. On completion of your application you will receive further information via email.

Courses at Level 2 or below may be free if you are in work, live in a London Borough and earn under £25,642.50 or are in receipt of a means tested benefit and looking for work.

Additional information

To practice at home you will need to purchase some items recommended by your tutor. Approximate cost £60.00- £70.00

Purchase a suitably recognised student insurance to cover ‘case studies’ of your practical treatments

You will need to purchase suitable black clothing to create a uniform to wear in the salon. Your tutor will recommend where to purchase the items.

You will need to wear black flat closed in shoes in the salon
