What is this course about?

VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Women’s Hairdressing is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in; the creative art of cutting or dressing hair, how to effectively shampoo and condition hair or provide a good consultation service for your clients.

This level 2 certificate aims to provide you with a range of essential and practical skills / knowledge. These will equip you to seek either further training or employment as a junior stylist providing cutting and styling services within the hairdressing industry. Following successful completion of this qualification you will be qualified to work in a number of employment destinations such as: hairdressing salons, hotels or cruise ships. 

What will we cover?

This qualification covers a wide range of practical skills and knowledge required for working as a junior stylist providing cutting and styling services. You will study the following mandatory content:

UV20483 Follow health and safety practice in the salon 

UV20484 Working in the hair industry 

UV20386 Client consultation for hair services

UV20488 Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp 

UHB339 Cut hair using hairdressing techniques 

UV10345 The art of dressing hair 

You will also study the following optional unit: 

UV20499 Create an image based on a theme within the Hair and Beauty Sector

Where possible we work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. This could include:

  • structured work-experience or work-placements within their business 
  • your attendance at classes or lectures given by industry experts

What level is this course & what skills do I need?

This course is Level 2.

You will need to have appropriate levels of English skills in order to produce assignments necessary for this course. 

You must have achieved an English Language Level 2 qualification or above. You will be asked to provide your certificate during the Course Approval Assessment.

A passion for the beauty and or complementary industry and a willingness to learn.

Competent IT skills

Well organised and ability to work to deadlines. This course requires home study and research skills. You must have sufficient time at home that you can set aside to do homework, revision and practice.

You will be expected to work on your classmates to practice and perform your practical treatments. This course is open to males and females

Courses at Level 2 or below may be free if you are in work, live in a London Borough and earn under £25,642.50 or are in receipt of a means tested benefit and looking for work.
